Heartache and sorrow follow many couples who have been unable to conceive. Expensive and physically draining procedures have left many couples in debt and disappointed. Medications and procedures often carry a heavy toll on the couples as depression, weight gain, high blood pressure, and many other adverse symptoms are common bi products of fertility drugs and treatments.
Many couples are now using the options made available through various fertility centers of surrogacy in India. The cost of in vitro fertilization and surrogacy in India is often times less expensive than other options. Surrogates from India are also at a legal disadvantage and so legal battled are far less likely when using a surrogate from India.
This surrogacy offers many options such as the both of the mother’s egg and father’s sperm can placed in surrogate, or the donor’s egg and father’s sperm can be placed in the surrogate, or a donor’s sperm and mother’s egg. The frozen sperm is shipped to the donor. The father must travel to India when the baby is born. At least one parent must travel to India. If the mother’s egg is being donated then the mother must travel to India where the egg will be extracted. The stay could be three weeks or longer. Proper passports and legal documents for the baby to travel from India to the US are approximately one month.
The child will be an American Citizen despite the birth location. All processing and legal paperwork is prepared by the agency handling the surrogacy. The cost is approximately 12,000. This same procedure if done in the US would cost approximately 70,000. This is being considered a safer solution to surrogacy as Indian surrogates offer less potential legal issues. This may cost less but it is quite a strain on the couple physically and emotionally. The entire issue must be considered and weighed from every angle before turning to surrogacy. Surrogacy is never a simple option for with it comes the future concern of explaining your choice to your children and or hiding your choice from your child. The surrogate’s health choices may be different than the choices of an American mother and their may be implications on the future health of the child. Eating habits, environmental issues, disease are all pertinent issues that the potential parents must consider.
