With the desire to have a baby comes the new interest in ovulation and tracking your ovulation cycle. Each woman is born with millions of eggs that wait for maturity. With ovulation a mature egg is released for fertilization.

There are a number of signs that accompany ovulation but many women go month after month without taking note of them. If you are trying to get pregnant now is the time to begin to track your ovulations. You will need to begin to pay close attention to your body’s secretions, temperature changes and even heightened sexual desire. Many women experience all of the following symptoms each month while others may skip months of ovulation. You should become very aware of your body and study the patterns of your body to discern when you are ovulating.

Noticeable symptoms should include internal tenderness in one ovary or in both, excess mucus discharge, a change in odor of discharge, tenderness in the breasts, and an increase in sexual desire.

The ovulation process is the process of a mature egg being released out of the fallopian tube and into the prepared ovary where it will wait for fertilization. Sperm can already have been waiting for days for that one egg to be released and make its grand descent into the ovary. This process begins around the twelfth day after the beginning of menstruation. About three days before ovulation the vagina will begin excreting thin, watery almost the consistency of the raw white of an egg discharge. This discharge is key to the egg traveling with ease from the fallopian tubes to the ovary.

One great way to track ovulation is by closely watching for changes in cervical mucous. This mucous will go through various changes during the woman’s monthly cycle. These changes are tracked by what is termed as cervical mucous analysis. The cervical mucous is observed by inserting clean fingers into the vagina and observing the mucous. During non fertile days of the month the woman will be dry having little to no cervical mucous. As the ovulation cycle begins more discharge will appear although it will be more chalky or yellow in color. The closer your body gets to ovulation the more mucous will be discharged. Right before ovulation the discharge is thin, watery and it is similar in consistency to the white of a raw egg. This discharge is the key indication that ovulation is at hand. Now is the ideal time for conception to take place.
