Before even looking at a possible hemorrhoid treatment, one should first understand what it is, what causes it, and then move on to the different options to get rid of it. The reason being is that a hemorrhoid may show the same symptoms and characteristics with other diseases and having a wrong diagnosis will definitely lead to a wrong treatment.

Hemorrhoids are characterized by swelling in the rectal area. This can also be very painful even if it is not that serious. If the swelling of the veins occurs inside the recta canal, this is called an internal hemorrhoid as opposed to the external hemorrhoid, which occurs outside the anus. Hemorrhoid treatment may vary from one anther depending on the gravity of the issue or the type.

Hemorrhoids are caused by pressure applied in the veins in the anal area. Pressure in the veins found in the pelvic region can also cause hemorrhoids. If these veins are stretched due to bowel movement, a hemorrhoid can occur. Pregnant women are prone to hemorrhoids and should be therefore aware of at least one hemorrhoid treatment that may be doable if it occurs.

Many patients of hemorrhoid simply need a change in diet to have their hemorrhoids treated. A change in diet also means a change in bowel movement. Most doctors advise patients to take in more foods that are rich in fiber such as bananas to help facilitate lighter and smoother bowel movement. Hemorrhoids may also be treated using fixative methods such as tying the lumps and heating them or using electricity to apply coagulation therapy.

Another type of hemorrhoid treatment if there is no alternative option, surgery is required. Treating hemorrhoids through surgery is called hemorrhoidectomy. This is a procedure applied mostly in internal types of hemorrhoids. This is also the most applicable treatment if the patient is always bleeding.
