There are a couple of common mistakes in sticker printing that can make your custom stickers look like an amateur's while you still get charged a professional level printing fee. This guide is here to teach you about these mistakes, and hopefully it also can help you avoid doing them for the good of your own sticker printing. So for your reference, you should know that there are four major mistakes that you should be concerned with.
1. Paying for expensive custom stickers – The first mistake is to pay for expensive custom stickers. Customization does not necessarily mean expensive, though some might think this is true. You however must know that you do not need to pay for any extra special fees just because you created custom sticker designs. In fact, if you keep to standard dimensions more or less your sticker printing fees should just be the same. So do not be fooled by sticker printers that charge extra. They prey on amateurs. Pay only what is right for your specific sticker printing order.
2. Lack of spaces or borders – Now, in terms of appearance, a common and amateur mistake in stickers is the lack of proper spaces and borders. For example, the designs might usually almost come to the edge of the print, or the borders themselves aren't really uniform on any of the sides of the stickers. This can be a mistake in your layout (it might not have printing bleeds) or it can also be an error with the printers themselves (cutting mistakes). On your end, you should practice adding printing bleeds(extra space dimensions) in your stickers so that the printer has some leeway in cutting the prints. Hopefully that also helps minimize the occurrence of bad cuts in the printer itself.
3. Bad inks – Another mistake in printing stickers is if you choose the wrong sort of ink. Stickers can be used in different environments and the inks in them can be exposed to moisture and other types of materials. If you choose the wrong kind of ink, the designs of your stickers might deteriorate or fade. So if you plan on printing stickers for the outdoors, you may want to spend some money on good quality inks that are resistant to weathering. This should prevent the early deterioration of your stickers, making them look more professional.
4. Using the wrong kind of paper – Finally, people also sometimes commit the mistake in printing in the wrong kind of sticker paper. Just like the ink issue above, certain kinds of paper are more resistant to weather effects than others. If your stickers are for a more outdoor setting, the paper must be coated in special moisture resistant substance to protect it and make it more durable. While indoors, you may just want some simple dirt resistant coatings to make the sticker look great always. Choose wrongly and your stickers will look dirty or soggy early on which will of course make it look like an amateur sticker.
So that should cover the major mistakes that you should know about. Learn from them and avoid them when you go about your own sticker printing. Good Luck!
