Brazilian retail sector is presently undergoing some critical changes that are resulting in the internal restructuring of the both sector and companies.

The process of reaching high level of organization and IT implementation is currently on. Therefore, the Brazil retail sector has adopted new forms of relationship with the suppliers and has evolved a broad range of knowledge regarding consumers' habits. This data is empowering the retailers in comparison to producers. It is in accordance with the global trend where the power is shifting from industry's field to retail sector in productive chain.

Growing competition and changing behavior and habits of customers have been the primary factor in bringing significant changes in the Brazilian retailing sector. The rising competition between outlets designed on same format and those with differences have given a chance to companies to launch price reduction programs. They have also introduced steps to rationalize functions and to distinguish their services to attract more patrons.

Computerization of the sector has been given special emphasis. The sector is fast adopting IT to provide knowledge of product flows and benefits in producer retailer chain. The increased use of IT in the sector is leading to the increased integration between retail and industry and also redefining inventory volumes, commercial operations and logistical flows.
