Laser skin resurfacing is an excellent form of cosmetic treatment that can improve the appearance of skin that is damaged by a variety of issues including irregular skin pigmentation, wrinkles, and scars.

Before Laser Skin Resurfacing Surgery
The first step in receiving laser skin resurfacing is to schedule a consultation with a doctor that specializes in this particular form of cosmetic treatment. A complete evaluation will be performed to determine whether or not this method of treatment will work for the particular skin issue that you suffer from.

You will also have a physical evaluation completed to determine whether or not your skin quality is suitable for this method of treatment, and whether or not you have any existing medical conditions which may cause complications to the procedure.

During Laser Skin Resurfacing
Unlike many other cosmetic procedures, laser skin resurfacing is non-invasive in nature. Though you may experience some irritation to the skin, there is no use of incisions to improve skin structure. Generally, a local anesthesia will be provided to numb the skin during treatment, and in some cases a mild sedative may be provided as well.

Once you have been given the anesthesia, the cosmetic surgeon will begin treatment using lasers to resurface the skin. The laser removes minute layers of the outer skin that is damaged, while it also stimulates the skin beneath to promote new cell growth. Treatment time varies depending on the amount of skin being treated, with minor procedures taking as little as 45 minutes and more complex procedures taking two to three hours.

After Laser Skin Resurfacing Treatment
Recovery after laser skin resurfacing treatment generally takes about two weeks. During this time you will be instructed to remain home to allow your skin to heal and a new layer of skin to form. Once this has occurred, you will be able to return to your normal activities, though you will generally have some redness to the skin for a few weeks longer.
