Bets in Texas Holdem Poker can be broadly classified into two types, viz. limit holdem betting and no limit holdem betting. The amount of the bet will be pre-determined at the beginning of the game in case of limit Texas Holdem Poker betting. Both the small and big blinds can have a specified amount of betting during the first two rounds. When the betting amount is increased in the following rounds, it increases according to certain pre-determined limits.
In case of Spread limit bets, the raise or bets are made according to the 'spread' or specified range. The rest of the rules are similar to limit holdem betting. Pot limit bets limits the maximum bet of a player. The bet of the player cannot cross the total amount which has been accumulated in the pot.
The no limit betting pattern imposes no restrictions on the amount of bets placed by players. This betting structure is considered to be misleading as a player cannot presume the strength of the opponent's hand based on the amount of the bet. Often, a player tries to know about the hand of the opponent from the amount of bet placed.
A blind bet in Texas Holdem Poker is a forced bet. It is used to begin the Texas Holdem Poker game. The first player is asked to place a bet without even having any idea about the cards. Blinds bets are placed by the first two players on the immediate left of the dealer. The first two players are determined by using a token called Dealer Button. This is passed in a clockwise direction among the players at the end of each round.
A 'call' is a type of bet where a player places the same amount of bet as another player. A player can also use the option of 'check' while playing Texas Holdem Poker if he does not wish to place any bet. However, the player continues to be a part of the game even without betting.
When a player places a larger bet as compared to the previous player, it is called 'raise'. A player can also bet all he has on a hand by choosing the 'going all in' bet. If a play wants to quit a particular hand, he can choose the betting option 'fold'. This excludes the player from the game and leaves him with no opportunity of winning the pot.
