Have you ever had trouble shopping for your parents? I know I have. Every Mother’s Day it is the same thing, “mom what do you want this year?” and the answer is always, “Jewelry.” I love my mom but I can not afford to buy her a gold necklace every year. Not to mention that she gives the same answer for Christmas, her anniversary and her birthday too. But at least she gives an answer. My dad always gives the thoughtful, “I don’t know ... I’m fine with anything.” You would think he could give me a little direction. Usually I opt to buy my dad some kind of sports related cap and my mom something pretty. But this year when my creative gift-giving gene is running on fumes I will have a plan. My last line of defense will be a personalized gift.
Personalized gifts are a great option when you have no clue on what to buy for someone. You will be able to take an ordinary gift and give it a little special touch. You see my dad is a big sports fan, but I can only get him his favorite team’s jerseys so many times. So instead I will focus on specific aspects of a certain sport. His favorite sport is hockey so this year I might buy him a personalized hockey stick or puck. But he likes other sports too so I could personalize a football helmet, a steering wheel cover, a baseball bat and a whole slue of other sports objects.
Now it is time to think about my mom. As much as she likes jewelry she is going to have to settle for something a little less expensive. Good thing for her that she happens to like thoughtful gifts as much as the expensive ones. My mother has a fascination with taking pictures and buying picture frames. What better gift then to get a personalized picture frame with picture of one of her kids. Not only is it something she likes, it is also cheap.
Personalized gifts can work for their anniversary too. The ability to personalize anything creates many possible creative gift ideas. For example, I could take their favorite board game and have a picture of them right in the middle of the board. Or I could personalize the game completely around their life and marriage. Or if making a whole board game is too much trouble, there is always the option of making a puzzle of their marriage picture or some other special photo.
The possibilities are endless with personalized gifts. I know this article mainly focuses on shopping for my parents, but personalization really works for anyone who is difficult to shop for. So remember if it is Christmas, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, a birthday, a wedding or any other special occasion, the option to have a gift personalized is always available and it will probably be the best gift idea possible.
