If you are anything like me and my friends, college is a time of meeting new people, visiting new places, and experiencing a world of new ideas. College is a time of expanding your resume and making you more valuable to a business from everyone else in the crowd. The best way to do all of this while still earning college credits is to register for college study abroad programs.
After graduation, I looked back at those college years and thought about how exciting it was to go out and discover what it was I wanted to do with my life. I couldn't have done that without getting a well-rounded base of knowledge which would be useful in the real world. My summer study abroad program allowed me to step outside that box of core curriculum and experience a way of life far unlike my own.
What is a study abroad program?
College study abroad programs allow students to take courses for college credit in another country. They can be run through study abroad vendors or university faculty-led programs.
What countries can I study abroad in?
Most universities accept credits from foreign universities provided they are U.S. accredited. Some of the more popular destinations for summer study abroad programs include: Australia, China, New Zealand, England, Thailand, the Netherlands, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Spain, and more.
What can types of courses are provided?
College study abroad programs offer students a diverse range of classes, ranging from foreign languages to mathematics, business to the performing arts. Before signing up and registering for a study abroad course, make sure your course credits are pre-approved by your school. This way you know for sure your credits will transfer and count towards your degree.
Is it Affordable?
There are scholarship opportunities available for students, especially within your college or university. If your school has its own study abroad office, there should be scholarship money and financial aid available.
College study abroad programs that include an international internship are a wonderful way to gain real world business experience. Many of these international summer study abroad programs offer the type of expertise you are seeking. These programs display to potential employers you are a resourceful, independent, and culturally diverse individual.
While you may forget the name of your English professor or the physics formula to determine the acceleration of an object falling from a set distance, you'll always remember the fun you had during your summer study abroad program. The friends you made and the experiences you shared last a lifetime.
