Imagine yourself in a situation where you have called people at your place for lunch and in the middle of all preparations suddenly you notice that the drain of your kitchen is clogged. Things are worse when you are getting late for office and you find that the shower is not working or may be the flush is choked. Doesn’t these drain problems sound common to all? The inconvenience caused by these clogged drains is immense. You then start thinking of the options available with you to unclog drains.

Sometimes the clog may be temporary and can be easily attended by you. There are various homemade remedies which one can try for clogged drains. In case these ideas work, then the hassle of calling the plumber is not required and if things still bad then one can always call a plumber for his/her help.

Here are some inexpensive household remedies/items which can be used to unclog drains

  • The first thing one can do to unclog drains is to simply pour hot water. Sometimes it is only bits of food items, strands of hair etc that obstruct the drain. Pouring boiling water on the drain can remove such small clogs.

  • Next you can try a combination of baking soda and white vinegar followed by boiling water. This combination will work on some stubborn clogs which are not firmly packed in the drain. This method can also be used as a preventive measure once in a month as it is very effective.

  • If in case the above methods are not useful and there is standing water in the sink, then one needs a sink plunger. It is said that most of the clogs can be easily cleared by means of these plungers.

Which ever methods you choose to unclog drains, just make sure these are fixed as soon as possible. You just need some patience and some simple tools by your side and in case things are out of your control, then you can call the plumber and get things fixed.
