Developing a strategy for a marketing campaign is like a needle to a thread. Both are essential to accomplish a task. Without one, there is nothing that can be done. A strategy is something that any business cannot do without. The importance of a strategy to a campaign simply cannot be overemphasized.
A sales strategy is one that should be identifiable by all the employees, from the guys in the corporate boardroom to the guys putting oil in the machines. Communicating strategy is very important so that everyone in the organization can be counted in when it is time to execute the plan.
The top honchos of the corporate boardrooms must be conscious of the strategy because you will definitely need their support to launch your campaign. They must be involved in crafting the plan so that they can aptly call these projects truly theirs. Similarly, middle management should also be aware of the plan because they are the ones who are going to implement it. Lastly, you also can’t leave the rank and file in the dark. Their participation can foster a sense of belongingness with the company.
Let me give you a concrete example.
There was this company who gave away custom bookmarks with encouraging words to boost the morale of the whole organization. Each one, from the Board of Directors and down to the cleaners were given custom bookmarks with 'We are going to be No. 1!' printed on it. At first, many of the organization’s cynics believed that it was just another gimmick. On the contrary, the little bookmark printing items were done to begin a movement that will help bring the company to the top. The point here is that you have to involve everybody, from the rank and file to the top of the organization, so you can effectively sell the company to the market.
Hence, having a clear objective is very important in any strategy. In the case of the company mentioned, the strategy is about being number 1 – at the top of the game. Before even selling your products or services to customers, your employees should be your first clients. You must be able to sell to your people before attempting to make your pitch to the public. For how can you sell something if the ones producing it are not convinced at all? To be number one means everybody in the organization would also want to achieve that distinguished place.
The key is to have everyone in the organization aspire to achieve more. This can be accomplished when everybody feels that they are part of the growth of the organization. Make your pitches then to your member and staff part of your marketing campaign. Another bookmark printing with a key message like 'Partner All The Way' can mean a lot to each and everyone. Just remember to repeat your messages. When conveyed often, your message can become a mantra that organization will leave by. A team that supports each other is a team committed to the goals and visions of the organization.
