Developed in the 1970s by the United States of America Department of Defence, GPS (Global Positioning Satellites) Technology was designed to help improve tracking capabilities of its intended targets.

Over the years, as technology has progressed, GPS tracking have also found other uses. The military applications of GPS span many purposes:

Our forces often serve the country by engaging in conflict in remote countries. These scenarios are often volatile and very high risk. The armed forces need to make sure they do all they can do help manage that risk in order to reduce the risk of losing lives.

Through the use of GPS technology and radio communications tracking systems can be put in place to help safeguard our soldiers.

Using Motorola Mototrbo technology a single, discrete device can act as a two-way radio and GPS location-tracking device. This means that the crew on the ground can not only stay in constant communication, but a central support team can monitor the wear-abouts of their company on the ground.

The GPS Tracking solution provides the following to the military when working in remote locations:

• Constant two way communication between the ground teams and base

• A panic alert facility, should conflict or crisis be encountered

• Peace of mind that the team on the ground can call for air or ground backup in a conflict situation

• Peace of mind knowing that the location of the team is being monitored, so the risk of getting lost on foreign soil can be avoided.

• Tracking of all vehicles (both in the air and on the ground) and personnel.

• Monitor movement of troops and cargo shipments on foreign soil.
Of course, a GPS tracking system isn’t the be all and end all solution to the militaries needs; however, even if crisis cannot be avoided then it will help to manage the situation.

GPS Technology is now very affordable, and in any scenario where there is a remote team of workers it should be deployed to ensure the safety of that team.
