Ice skating is a popular sport in UK and is taken up, mostly by young children, especially girls. Ice Skaters, all over know the fun of ice skating as well as the hardwork that is needed in order to get fairly decent at it. The journey from getting into a pair of ice skates to standing up confidently and performing creative manoeuvres is long. Most people don't make it that far.

Let's take a look at the various demarcations as far as a skating community is concerned.

The Serious Skaters

Almost all the serious ones get down to business at tender ages but it takes them some time to really get to learn skating. Most kids need to be at least 5-6 years old to start being able to perform tricks on skates. Serious skaters who start late i.e. at the age of 12 or so, have to cross great obstacles in order to get to that level.

Most serious skaters become single skaters. Others form pairs i.e. where a man or a woman perform synchronised skating.

Recreational Skaters

These are a group of skaters who are not really serious about their stuff. They may get private skating lessons, and have competitions but just do not devote ample time to learning and practicing. These skaters skate well and are really impressive at times but do not reach the master levels and consequently do not get to the level of national as well as international competitions. Most of the recreational skaters are from the age group of 16 to 30.

Ice Dancers

They can be further subdivided into two groups, i.e. social dancers as well as competitive dancers.

Social dancing is an art form that's slowly dying out but enthusiasts are still loyal to it. This kind of free style skating still goes on in social clubs and skaters are well capable of performing some professional as well as crazy tricks such as the single, double triple as well as the quadruple revolutions.

Competitive dancers comprise of both the serious as well as the social skaters. They are dedicated to their form of art. They begin early and slowly and steadily graduated to ice dancing.

Ice dancing is a form of art and is most watched and sought after. Most skaters aspire to be ice dancers owing to the elegance of the sport. Ice dancing is hard and requires daily practice sessions with professional coaches.

There are a number of ice dancing completions that are organised all over the world and both single as well as paired skaters perform and entertain ice dancing lovers to the best of their ability.

Learning ice skating is not possible if you aren't serious about it. So get a good pair of ice skates and get hold of a professional coach.
