So you’ve picked out your envelopes. What’s next then? You have to figure out how you can design your custom envelopes with the brand image you would want for your business. And a few key points will go a long way in helping you design your envelope printing.

The first thing you need to do is to get friendly with your pre-press people. These are the folks that process your print order before they get to be put to press. They are the ones who may not be involved directly with the printing process, but they do have a say on what can be done with your project so you’ll have your envelopes on time. If you have any issues regarding your design and artwork, the press people can help you clarify them.

Your design will always go to the pre-press department first before they get approved for printing. Unless your artwork is an old one that they already have a file for it. What the pre-press department does is to get your design ready for printing. They make sure that your colors are separated right or even that you have the right colors according to their specifications. They also make sure that you comply with postal regulations and that your custom envelopes can actually be printed. They check and approve your design before it can even touch ink and transferred on the plates ready for printing.

The pre-press department people can also help you change your design if you happen to have a change of heart with your artwork. They can do the changes themselves but it may incur additional fees when they edit your artwork. This is already extra effort for them that are not part of your print job so expect that they would ask payment for it. But you have to be notified if there are changes needed in your design before they run it to press. If it’s only minimal, they may let it pass. Nevertheless, any changes necessary to your design you should be aware of it.

The pre-press people can also handle your typesetting. But again, it can also mean additional fees. If you still haven’t selected your typeset, what they can do at the minimum is to type your address according to the font of your choice and then stick it to your envelopes.

Being friendly with the pre-press people can go a long way in getting your print job in order and on time. Your sales agent may not be able to help you with the technicalities; but your pre-press man can definitely assist you before your custom envelopes can be printed according to your specifications.
