What can make a customer or a prospect decide to open an ad mail? According to a study, there are three factors that can make them want to open your envelope printing, especially if it contains marketing stuff – one, the proper address and spelling of the recipient’s name; two, the type of postage used; and three, the presence of a return address.

It’s not like your clients and prospects are doing everything to make sure that your custom envelopes get opened. But with these three elements present, you’re more than likely to have more target clients opening your envelopes and reading what’s inside them.

These should be a lesson to many marketers who enjoy sending out mails in bulk-rate packages, with teaser intact but no return address. If you want to be effective in making sure that you get your recipients reading your mail, then better stick to the elements mentioned when mailing your custom envelopes.

In addition to the first three elements, the study further proved that an envelope with a misspelled name can still be effective; more effective than having an envelope printing with a generic title address.

Next, metered mail at the standard rate will be opened as compared to those First Class mails that have a pre-printed permit.

Another issue that was noted during the study is that the standard #10 business envelopes are the ones more likely to be opened among the envelopes used in the market.

For the others, a stamped envelope can offer more appeal when you have consumer mailings. They often attract more people to your marketing message inside because they encompass social categories in terms of postal class. You don’t even have to pay more costs for the classy appearance.

Some marketers advice that you take advantage of metered mail for business-to-business correspondences. According to them, it doesn’t matter much if you send your letters First Class. What matters most is what’s inside the custom envelopes.

Another study noted that #10 white envelopes get better chances of being opened than other sizes and colors. The envelopes with different sizes and shades might get you noticed, but they do make your mail appear as a marketing material, which people often ignore and disregard.

Lastly, for that personal and yet business like envelope printing, always go for First Class with your address printed with ink jet. And if you’re going for real business mail, don’t forget to use a return address for easy response from your target clients.
