The finest parts that are left are then selected and used to make the cork. Then the leftovers called as scrap are composed and put in to the grinder that converts them into small parts or granules. Then these granules are mixed with a material that will bind them together. Now the whole mixture is converted into big blocks of flooring material that is called cork flooring.

Apart from its ability to absorb the sound up to greater levels, cork floors are durable and provide insulation from the heat and moisture. In addition, the production of cork does not affect the ecological balance as the barks are cut or harvested in such a way that it should not affect the tree. Laws are in place so that the leftover material from cork production is not wasted and cork trees are protected.
