Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina, Inc. was founded in 1926 by the Centenary United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem, Carolina. It was started as a way to replicate the success Goodwill Industries was having all over the country - helping people with a "hand up" not a "handout." Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), they help many different types of people with various needs.

While Goodwill Industries is known for helping people, they have needs as well. For one, donations are needed more than ever. Receiving donations allows them to fix or repair the items (creating jobs), sell them at a reasonable price (helping families and making money), and use the money to pay salaries and also invest in more training and educational programs to help people become self-sufficient.

The need for donations goes well beyond just clothes and household items, though. Donating a vehicle to Goodwill Industries will provide them with even more opportunities to help people out. Fixing the car up (creating jobs) and reselling it at a reasonable price to somebody who is in need of reliable transport is only part of the way it helps. The flip side is the money received from the sale of your donated car will be used to fund Goodwill's community projects and job training programs, allowing the charity to help even more people from the donation of this single item.

Donating a used car that is needlessly rusting in your garage may not seem like a big contribution, but you would be surprised at just how far a vehicle donation can go. If you have always been in the fortunate position of owning a car and never had to worry about transportation then you probably take it for granted. Put yourself in the shoes of someone on the bottom rung of the ladder trying to make their life better, a dependable means of transportation could really be a life changer.
