Goodwill Industries of Delaware was incorporated by Rev. J. H. Beauchamp and was originally run from Asbury Methodist Church in 1921. Since then, they've helped countless people improve their lives. They do this not through hand outs but by simply giving people a helping hand. Rather than just handing out money, Goodwill Industries works with them to enable them to support themselves through job training and job placement programs.

What began with simple job training programs has now developed into an organization that helps many thousands of people each year. Goodwill's vocational programs are top rate and continually being improved upon. Goodwill Industries is a leader when it comes to vocational training and employment education.

Like other Goodwill Industries locations across America, Goodwill Industries of Delaware and Delaware County operates in three different ways - Goodwill Stores and Auctions, Goodwill Janitorial Services, and Goodwill Staffing Services. They employ people of varying abilities in each aspect of the business and helps them to learn new skills as they work.

Much of the charity's work revolves around Goodwill Stores and Auctions. This is how the organization began at the start of the 20th century. If this is to continue to be their primary source of funding, they need public donations more than ever. Whether it's clothes, furniture, or even a used car, public donations are vital to the everyday running of this century old charity.

This year, Goodwill Industries of Delaware and Delaware County will host the 2009 Goodwill Annual Awards Luncheon at the Chase Center on the Riverfront on Friday, May 1, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. Local leaders will be recognized for their contributions. The Luncheon Chair is Michael Berardi, President of Nason Construction. Mark Pryslak, Vice President of WSFS Bank, will be acting as co-chair. If you live in the area, feel free to drop in to show your support for all of the wonderful people who make Goodwill Industries what it is.
