Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan was founded in 1972 under the name of Asgard Enterprises. In 1986, Asgard joined forces with Goodwill Industries International. That's when things really took off. Adopting the model of other Goodwill Industries, Goodwill Industries of North Michigan relies on public donations as much as any charity but asks for a wider variety of different donations.

Whether it's an old wardrobe, a dining set, or even a used car, donations are used in many ways to help people. For one, the items are made available for sale at a discounted rate. This helps families and individuals all over the country. Also, though, the money from the sale of the donated items is used to fund programs to help the community. This cycle of helping has allowed Goodwill Industries to improve the lives of a lot of people.

In April of 2009, Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan is sponsoring a five kilometer family run called 'Run for Shelter'. The Run for Shelter is set to take place on the 18th of April, at 9:00 a.m in Traverse City, Michigan. All Runners are welcome, or you can walk if you want to. This is a great example of how charities like Goodwill Industries help to bring the whole community together.

If you want to make a contribution to Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan, you could take part in Run for Shelter. Alternatively, you could donate a used car.
