While Detroit, Michigan is known to some as Motor City, home to the American car manufacturing industry, there are other "big players" helping to place Detroit on the map. Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit was established in 1921, only a few years after Goodwill Industries made it's initial debut in Boston. In Detroit, Goodwill Industries wasted no time in getting to work to help the community.

They actually officially started as a partnership between Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit and the League for the Handicapped. In 1970, the two organizations split, each going their own separate way to help people in the Detroit area.

The relationship between Detroit and Goodwill Industries is a match made in heaven. As its nickname 'motor city' suggests, Detroit is full of used cars. Goodwill Industries thrives on the donation of used cars from members of the public. These donated vehicles are then auctioned to raise funds for the charities many projects and training schemes. This has proven to be a very successful system in the city of Detroit, with so many used cars to be donated and the public's love of automobiles.

Donating your car (especially if it was built in Detroit), can help in several different ways. For one, it can be used as a tax deduction. Only a certain amount can be claimed, though, since laws were changed a few years ago. If you are confused by the complexities of vehicle donation, or think that you could use some assistance in processing your donation and making your claim for a tax rebate, Charity Dispatch can help. Charity Dispatch makes it easy to donate your car to any area of the country and will make the donation process much simpler.

Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit has been around for nearly ninety years, which is a long time. They wouldn't have been able to survive if it wasn't for donations from citizens all over the country. From clothes to couches to Chryslers, donating to Goodwill Industries will allow them to help people in your community for the next 90 years to come.
