Goodwill of Greater Washington DC was founded in 1935 by social worker Elizabeth Murray along with six other community leaders. It took five years to set up, but the dream of a Goodwill organization to help the people of the nations capital was finally a reality. Legally, the charity goes by the name of the Davis Memorial Goodwill Industries - because of a $100,000 donation made by Anne Hubbard Davis in 1939.

Today, they are known for things they've done in the past (an annual book sale that has attracted people like Barbara Bush to participate and the Annual Embassy Tours), they're becoming known more and more for their Fashion of Goodwill Campaign, which insists "It's not your grandmother's closet” at Goodwill of Greater Washington.

Speaking of clothes and fashion, it's items like clothes, couches and cars being donated that allow organizations like Goodwill Industries to thrive all over the nation, helping literally thousands of people each year. Whether you donate a box of old sweaters (which may mean nothing to you but the world to somebody else) or an old car that's been cluttering up your driveway for years, your contribution makes a difference.

Goodwill of Greater Washington has been working with the community for decades, and with vehicle donation providing new sources of revenue, they'll be able to continue helping people in the nation's capital for years to come. Goodwill Greater Washington (or GGW as it is known by the locals), currently runs a chain of retail stores and employs over seven hundred people, over five hundred who could be classed as disabled.

Goodwill Industries isn't asking you to donate your car at your own expense. That would be an unreasonable request. But if you happen to have an old car just laying about then why not donate it? Charity Dispatch can help you with the donation process, sending your car donation to any Goodwill Industries donation center you choose.
