Goodwill Industries was introduced to Arkansas in 1927 by Charles E. Moyer, the then Mayor of Little Rock. A year later, Dr. Edgar J. Helms, founder of Goodwill Industries, visited Little Rock and approved of what he saw. Goodwill Industries of Arkansas has increased its operations greatly since then and now has several rehabilitation services, 15 retail stores and two attended donation stations.
As with other Goodwill Industries around the country, Goodwill Arkansas rely heavily on public donations. From clothes and couches to cars and trucks - donations received by Goodwill Industries are used to turn around the lives of disadvantaged people so that they can work to improve their own lives.
Starting January 1, 2005, the burden of determining the value of a donated vehicle went from the person donating the car or truck to the charity accepting the donation. After donating a car, you will usually receive a written document within 30 days letting you know how much money the charity received for the car and the amount that you are entitled to claim as a tax deduction as a result.
Vehicle donations allow Goodwill Industries to fund programs that help people with disabilities or disadvantaged situations achieve their fullest potential through vocational training, employment, and work placement services. By providing on the job training they also help people with disabilities to reach their goals of working to be self-sufficient.
One specific program run by Goodwill Arkansas is the Supported Employment program. It's designed to train individuals with a severe disability to be able to work in a competitive work environment. Programs like these are helped by contributions from people like you and organizations like Charity Dispatch who make it easy for you to donate your car, wherever you might be.
