The Book of Life is an allegorical book. It is believed to have recordings of the names as well as the life history of God’s righteous disciples. The Book of Life is mentioned in both Christian and Jewish religions. Its gist is that it promises eternal life to those who are righteous.

Book of Life: Citations

The Book of Life has been mentioned in the following ways:
Revelation 20:15- “If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”
Revelation 20:12- refers to books that were opened, stating that when the book of life was opened, “The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books.”

Book of Life: Who are Righteous?
Righteousness implies an attribute, which implies the justification of a person’s actions. According to the Hebrew Bible, the righteous are those who believe that their actions will be vindicated by God (Psalm 37:12-13). Righteous people are those who do what is right.

According to the New Testament, righteous are those who have faith in God. Righteousness also includes:

acts of charity
avoiding sinful acts.

Some of the definitions of righteousness in the New Testament include:
Righteousness involves not just faith but actions as well.
The things that one speaks prove his/her righteousness.
The righteous are at peace with others.

Book of Life and Salvation
The Book of Life elaborates on eternal salvation or the concept of eternal life. A person is believed to be forgiven for all the sins in the past, (receives salvation) when his/her name is recorded in the Book of Life. However, there is uncertainty about whether the name once written, can be erased.

Where there are references to eternal salvation in Revelation 3:5, it is stated that - “I will never blot out his name from the book of life.”

It is also stated in Exodus 32:33 that whoever has sinned against the Almighty - “I will blot out of my book.” It is clear that the Book of Life reveals the subtle nuances that are hidden in the actual words.
