Decorating and choosing a theme for your child’s bedroom can often be difficult, particularly as the choices available seem to increase by the day. Just when you think the planet has all the superheroes and action figures it could ever want then another one comes along and takes all the attention. Understandably, this can be somewhat frustrating when you are trying to select a popular theme that will stand the test of time. With football themes this becomes less of an issue, as allegiances to a favourite team tend to endure through the years. The football team your child follows at a young age will likely be the same team they support in adulthood.

Choice
Obviously the choice of team is a simple matter; it’s often just a case of how far to go. You may want to go the whole hog and have all the walls and trim in the team’s colours or you may want to just use a few bedding items and accessories to set the theme?
As far as the main Premiership teams there is certainly no shortage of choice – from duvets and pillowcase sets to curtains and lighting you will not be short of options when it comes to branded merchandise. Often this takes the form of a set coloured background emblazoned with the club’s logo or crest. Alternatively there are options which use a star player as the theme rather than the team itself. While this can be a tempting idea, after all, most young boys will have a favourite star, you need to be minded that players are not as loyal as the fans and may well change clubs not long after you’ve splashed out some serious cash on bedding and posters featuring their image in the old club’s strip.

Colours
Generally red or blue are the most common colours and need to be used sparingly. While it might seem a good idea at the time, over use of strong colours can have a dramatic effect and all but the largest of bedrooms will instantly appear smaller if too much colour is introduced.
A better idea, in most cases, is to use strong colours for bedding and accessories with a pale or neutral colour scheme as a back-drop. Having one feature wall, or using the main colour for trim and woodwork is often an effective method.

Bedding
Duvet covers are the most popular themed football items and are relatively inexpensive. Children often get quite attached to their favourite bedding and it can be a good idea to have a spare set in reserve so you can wash the bedding regularly without inducing tantrums.

Curtains
Matching curtains are also available for most teams in a variety of lengths to suit most windows. Often pure cotton and lightweight, curtains with a football design are not usually lined so it may be a good idea to have a secondary means of blocking out the light during summer months. An inexpensive roller blind is usually the simplest solution and these kinds of blinds are readily available in a wide selection of complimentary colours.

Accessories and Lighting
No football bedroom is complete without a few of these items and lighting accessories tend to be most popular. When buying lighting products for a child’s room it’s always a good idea to check that the product is child-friendly and safe. Bedside lights and night lights should be simple to operate and remain cool even when operated for long periods of time.
Other accessories include cushions, bean-bags and posters. Again, all are readily available to buy in a variety of shapes and sizes.

So creating a football themed bedroom is a relatively simple task to achieve, the only challenge is just how far to go and how much money to spend. With an ever expanding range children’s football merchandise available, you’ll never be short of ideas or inspiration.
