Donating a vehicle is a good way to entitle yourself to a tax deduction. If you want to receive the benefits of vehicle donation you will have to know exactly how this process works. One of the many challenges that most people face can be a lack of knowledge of the auto donation process and the rewards it can offer. Major charities, such as The American Red Cross and Goodwill Industries, are currently endeavoring to create awareness of how vehicle donation works and how to use this to their advantage. They hope that this will encourage an increasing number of people to donate their cars to charity, providing the necessary funds to continue their good work.

Once you’ve made the decision to donate your car you will have to spend some time completing the paperwork, after that things will be simple. Filling in the paperwork, and making sure that it is correct, is the most time consuming part of the car donation process. When this is done, the rest of the process will take very little time. One simple call to your chosen charity, stating that you would like to donate a car to them, and they will personally assist you with the donation process. After that the process will be simple.

Most charities will send people to your home to collect the car but this may not be the case with all the charities. With some of them, you may have to make your own arrangements to deliver the car to them yourself. If your car is in bad shape, you may need to pay to have your car towed to them. If this is the case you can add this expense to the value of your car when making your claim for tax relief. Once your car is left with the charity, they will take care of selling your car. Often they will be able to get a high price for it. It is important to know how much money the charity receives for your car as this will be the amount that you are able to claim on your taxes. Understanding these basic principals is essential if you are to reap the benefits of car donation.
