Over the past few months, charities have been doing their best to encourage the public to make larger donations. The economic downturn has left many charities fighting for their survival. Increasingly, charities are now asking for more vehicle donations, hoping that this will offset the decline in donations over the last several months. Large charitable organizations like The American Red Cross and the Goodwill Industries are finding that their income is now increasing because of more people contributing big donations like vehicle donation rather than smaller monetary donations. As a result, these charities made a point of creating awareness among people about the benefits of an auto donation.
Charitable institutions are now looking at the bigger picture. They are sending out the message that you don’t necessarily have to donate a car to make a contribution. Charities accept donations in almost any form. They are very capable of selling those large items, getting the money they need to make a difference in the world. Like others, I might think twice before donating my car in the current economic climate, but there are numerous other items, slightly less valuable, in and around my house, which I would consider donating. This is precisely what charities are hoping to capitalize on.
These charities are mainly looking for motorboats, motorbikes, motor homes and other large items like these. Their reasons for accepting such items as these are obvious. The charities can themselves go about selling the items and sometimes get a higher price than you might. There are also advantages for those making the donation. Donating a boat, trailer or something on the same lines will give you the same type of tax exemption that you can have got by donating a car. The rules governing tax exemption are the same. You must record the details of the donation on your tax form, along with the value of the car.
Basically it's a win-win scenario for both you and the charity. Charitable institutions with the help of your donation will be able to continue working to help others and you will enjoy a small tax exemption by giving away something that you never required in the first place.
