When you donate your car to charity, here are a couple of important points that you should consider. The most important thing you should do before making a donation to charity is to make sure that the charity you are donating your vehicle to is a recognized charity, above board and completely legitimate. There is a good reason for this. A number of criminal organizations pose as charities are are just waiting for an opportunity to take money from unsuspecting philanthropists, so you must make sure that the vehicle you donate will be going to a legitimate charity. Always donate to a well known, registered charity such as The American Red Cross or Goodwill Industries.

So, how will you be able to tell if the charity you have chosen is fraudulently posing as a charity? Well, there are quite a few ways to tell. Look out for unusual requests, if the organization asks you to pay additional fees apart from your donation this probably means that they are trying to squeeze as much money out of you as possible, and that they are not a legitimate charity. When you donate a car to charity, there should be no additional fees required. If you are asked to pay extra fees on top of your auto donation then you should be suspicious. This is not standard practice for any charity and there is a good chance that you are being scammed.

If I were to donate my car I would want to know that the proceeds from that sale will be put to good use. I'm sure that you share the same view. It is up to you to confirm that the organization to which you donate is legally registered with the government. This is really very important because if you don’t certify these credentials then you will not be eligible for any tax benefits. Moreover you would be taking a vital donation away from those who really need it, and that is something that nobody wants.
