Unless you've been hiding in your shed for the past several months you will know all about the economic recession. Businesses and individuals have been hit hard and overall spending has fallen drastically. As well as hurting businesses like retail, real estate and small businesses, it has also seriously affected the car sales industry. The street value of used cars is now at a record low as less people are prepared to make major purchases.

With that said, it has had a huge impact on charities as well, though many of us may not have realized it. Charitable organizations, such as The American Red Cross and Goodwill Industries, are seeing a massive dip in auto donations and other staple operations. As a result, major charitable organizations have started to consider some other funding alternatives. In the past, you would be able to claim tax relief if you donated your car to charity. This can still be done. However, many people are finding it to be less beneficial than in the past. The new rules state that the tax deduction you claim must be based on the actual market value of the car. As the market value of most cars has declined drastically many people see this as being not worth the effort. Vehicle donation is in decline as a result.

However, auto donation is still vitally important to many charities. It can still also be beneficial to the donor too.. Charities are encouraging vehicle donation and say that it is still a worthwhile action. I would most definitely look at all the options if I wanted to donate my car in this climate. There are very limited options available that prove to be better than donating a car in receiving tax breaks. Car donation is worth considering even in this turbulent economy, since the tax relief can help you to keep your money out of the government’s hands, and securely in your pocket.
