Who wouldn’t want a perfect smile? If you could have the smile you always wanted in just a few short trips to the dentist, wouldn’t you want to do that? Cosmetic dentistry has advanced significantly in recent years and porcelain veneers are becoming the go-to choice for people who want to correct their smile fast.

If you have a less than perfect smile, maybe your teeth are cracked, chipped, crooked, or stained, porcelain veneers can help you. A porcelain veneer is like a curtain or covering for your existing flawed tooth. It is placed over your existing tooth to cover the imperfections. It can help your teeth look whiter and straighter, still with an extremely natural appearance.

If you know little about cosmetic dentistry, you may be wondering what a porcelain veneer is. As explained before, a porcelain veneer is a covering for your tooth. It is made of a ceramic shell that looks very similar to your natural tooth. Your cosmetic dentist will order your veneers custom from a cosmetic dentistry lab. When your porcelain veneer comes in the dentist will affix it to your natural tooth with bonding adhesive.

The process to get veneers begins with you visiting your dentist to determine the type of veneer you need and the ideal size and shape of porcelain veneer. The dentist will also prepare your teeth for the veneers by removing some enamel. Your dentist will then place a temporary veneer on the tooth or teeth to protect it until the permanent one comes in.

The day you go for your permanent veneer placement your dentist will give you a local anesthetic. Your temporary veneer will be removed and the regular one permanently placed. Once this process is completed the veneer is set with a special light. Your dentist will advise you of proper care for your new smile.
