If you want to straighten your teeth, you have probably looked into options, mainly, the difference between Invisalign® and the most traditional method of teeth straightening, conventional metal braces. You may have concerns about whether or not Invisalign® and their technology actually works. This article highlights the basic differences between the two methods for straightening your smile.

Conventional braces, let’s face it, can be embarrassing if you decide to fix your smile as an adult. Invisalign® is very similar to conventional braces except it is a clear mold that covers your teeth. They are not as painful as conventional braces, and they can be worn by adults even through their work schedule. Invisible braces can also be removed, so if you prefer not to wear them for a short amount of time, then they can be placed in a container while you go on an interview, visit a client, or even a date where you don’t want to have them in your way.

Conventional braces are also painful as you visit your dentist and he adjusts them tighter to pull teeth closer. Invisalign® pulls teeth in to better alignment, but the molds are created in a series that are given to your dentist. As your teeth start to fit better into one part of the series, you are given a second part of the series to begin that is a little tighter than the other. This is less painful, but using Invisalign® may take a little longer than conventional braces. The average time to use the Invisalign® molds is about 12 months.

Overall, invisible braces are not the best selection for severe misalignment, but they are perfect for adults who wish to fix minor imperfections. It’s also a more modern form of technology, so many patients find that their treatment requires fewer trips to the dentist and provides results that are more accurate.
