You want to reset the password of BIOS then the method that will be chosen will depend on the type of BIOS present in your system. The normally available and used BIOS’s are IBM, Phoenix and AMI. Therefore, if you are looking to reset the password then there are many a ways.

One would be to use the backdoor password set by the manufacturer. In this the manufacturer sets some password that will work irrespective of whatever password has been set by you. Although the major use of these passwords is to help the testers in the testing and maintenance phase but still they can be used by you if you have forgotten your BIOS password.

Although you can find the passwords on internet on various forums but still you will need to check whether they are valid as it is a common practice that the manufacturers change these passwords from time to time. Some of the passwords for AMI BIOS’s are A.M.I., PASSWORD, CONDO AND HEWITT RAND. For Award BIOS these backdoor passwords are AWARD PW, TTPTHA, pint, condo, CONCAT, ALLY, ALLy, 01322222, 595595. Similarly for phoenix BIOS’s these would be BIOS, phoenix, CMOS and PHOENIX. For Compaq BIOS the password is Compaq, for Epox it is central, for Dell it is Dell, for Siemens it is SKY_FOX.

Other than these backdoor passwords you can also make use of the softwares that are available on the internet. These softwares might have been designed only for specific BIOS’s so might not work on all the BIOS’s. If it is possible for you and you know how to do then these BIOS passwords can also be set from the hardware. If nothing works then call the vendor and make use of the solutions provided by the vendor for resetting the BIOS password.
