Blinds often referred to as window blinds, are exclusive variety of covers designed for the windows. These are usually made of slats of cloth, wood or metal. A window blind is operated through adjustment of the fabric, wood or metal, by rotating from an open position, to a closed position. This process is achieved by the slats which are permitted to overlap.

Uses of the metal window blinds

The metal window blinds have variety of uses. These are used as protection for the houses or offices, against burglary, extreme temperatures, bad weather, and also fire. The automobile blinds are used in rear or rear side windows of a car. They help protect the vehicle and also the persons traveling in the car from direct rays of the sunlight. The car window blinds are generally fitted with brackets, and are very convenient to install or remove.

Varieties of blinds

There are many varieties of
window blinds available in the market. They are the Persian or the Slat blinds, the Venetian, the vertical and other varieties such as mini blinds, micro blinds, Holland blinds, pleated blinds and the honeycomb blinds. The most popular form of window blind is the slat blind. This variety consists of metallic or vinyl horizontal slats or strips. The slats can be rotated to up to 170 degrees and are connected with a string. These can be pulled up or down, either to allow or deny entry of outside light. The Venetian blinds have horizontal slats that slightly overlap each other. They are hung by tapes or cords, and the slats together rotate to about 180 degrees. Venetian blinds are usually made of plastic or metal, and sometimes wood. The next variety is the vertical blind, which is easier to operate than the horizontal blind. The vertical blinds are more durable and can withstand strong winds and resist dirt. These vertical blinds are generally made of thick plastic, and are used in homes or offices where, the doors are kept open.

The window blinds are used as a substitute for curtains. They usually are of the same dimensions as the windows, or are little wider and longer. Some of other varieties of window blinds are named as track blind, pleated shade, and roller blinds. Thus the blinds are important items both from the point of view of utility, as well as increasing the aesthetic appeal of a home or an office.
