No matter what it is that makes you want to be near water, you’re likely to find a little bit of it at Marina Vallarta. This is the place you’ll find luxurious yachts tied up in their slips. And for the consumer in you, there are shops and galleries, spas and restaurants. You’ll find the public access for the broad, sandy beach at the north end of the golf course. And by the way, if you want to play 18 holes at the Marina Vallarta Club de Golf, twilight rates start at 2 p.m. Water is probably not a good thing in this context, though, and there are plenty of water hazards on this course.

If you’re taking a day cruise to explore Banderas Bay, odds are it will depart from the terminal at Marina Vallarta. These tours aren’t all the same; some include food, some include activities like snorkeling, so make sure you understand what you have to look forward to before you leave your Puerto Vallarta vacation rental. In any event, you’ll almost always find a cash bar, lively music and plenty of fun.

Away from the crowd
Some visitors will tell you they prefer to wander Marina Vallarta rather than the Malecón or el Centro because it is quieter and not as crowded. And most of them will recommend a visit to the bar at the top of the marina’s lighthouse, El Faro. It’s a nice place to get out of the sun, and the views will knock your flip-flops off. Rumor has it that this is a wonderful spot to watch the sun set over Banderas Bay.

Marina Vallarta is very close to Puerto Vallarta’s airport; in fact, you probably drove past it on the way to your Puerto Vallarta Vacation Rental. You can get back to the marina on a city bus or a taxi any time you want.
