You are living large in your Villa Rental Puerto Vallarta – orange juice and coffee on the private patio overlooking Banderas Bay; delicious meals prepared by your own chef; original art and fine furniture throughout the villa. And it’s a nice walk to downtown or the beach. The only thing you wonder about is how you’re going to get around when you decide it’s time to venture farther afield.

The bus to everywhere
Worry no more, my friend. The answer is simple: take a bus. That’s right, no matter where you want to go in and around the city, you can probably find a bus that departs Puerto Vallarta and goes there . . . so long as there’s a road. And you’ll find the city bus route and bus stops along the main drag all the way from the airport to the south end of town.

There are thousands of places you may want to visit in town, and you can take the bus for around 4 or 5 pesos. Distinctive blue and white signs mark city bus stops. Take a bus from downtown to the Plaza de Toros; it stops right outside. There’s also a stop at the intersection of Walmart and Sam’s Club. Catch a bus to the Sports Stadium, to the Malecon, to the flea market on the Rio Cuale. Honestly, there’s no end to the places you can go around town for a few pesos.

Think outside the city limits
There’s more. Are you headed to Boca de Tomatlan and the trail to the lovely beach at Colomitas? Catch one of the Green buses for around 6 pesos. Do you want to catch a wave or two at Sayulita? Grab your surf gear and head for the ATM line’s gray buses, which leave from Walmart and the Plaza las Glorias (use the city bus to get there). The trip takes about an hour and a half and it will set you back about 50 pesos.

People who stay in a Villa Rental Puerto Vallarta insist that a ride on the city buses is a must if you want to see real local color. And why not? Bus fare is the best deal in town; the drivers use their own special gifts to navigate the city’s streets (hang on to your hat!); and there’s probably a cool beverage waiting for you at the next stop.
