Wind energy systems don’t have to be on a large scale such as wind farms that run over 100 turbines, generating energy greater than 100 kW. These farms are mainly used to create enough power for selling to utility companies. Single turbines for farms and small landowners are drawing interest from a whole new community of people who wish to cut their electric costs.

Wind training is not as readily available to this classification of people because of the rural areas where they live. The first step that should be taken in receiving basic training on single wind turbines is to order the Consumer’s Guide to Small Wind Electric Systems, a 23-page manual distributed by the U.S. Department of Energy to get a feel on what wind energy is all about for property owners. Even though you may not be interested in learning every technical design of the turbine or the importance of measuring atmosphere, this is going to be a valuable part of your property as well as history in the making.

Area community organizations may offer classes or further information on wind energy as it pertains to your application. Learning how to measure and keep track of your energy generated will definitely add to your property’s value and understanding the turbine structure will help you head off any problems that might occur. Neighbors are going to be interested in your new feature and the more knowledge you have, the better explanation you can share.

If there is not an organization on wind energy in your immediate area, this might be an opportunity to share your newly found knowledge and think about creating wind training as a community. Basic classes on what is needed in this growing industry could help someone make a career change or begin a career. Wind energy is exciting and learning together with like-minded people can point you in a direction that you may have been contemplating. Invite representatives from energy organizations, utility companies, area colleges that offer energy study and turbine manufacturers to make presentations to your organization, explaining the different aspects and suggestions in training from their point of view.

In addition to learning an intriguing new subject, there may be interest sparked in beginning a community project helping area towns and buildings such as hospitals, schools and factories with wind energy needs. Small rural communities are great at brainstorming ideas to bring fresh ideas to their towns and neighbors to form a better society.

There is also the possibility of factories moving close to your village that builds parts for turbines, both small scale and large scale. Possessing a background with hands on experience in the industry could help in obtaining a job. Skilled and knowledgeable employees are few and far between as the public is just now being made aware of how wind energy is moving into our lives. Having a head start in wind training, putting it to good use and providing an example for your family and your immediate area with wind energy is a win-win situation.
