Catalog printing is not just about the layout and the photographs. For any kind of custom catalog to be a success, the writing of the catalogs must also be something that must be focused on. The written aspect of catalog printing is the meat of your message, and they are the ones that drive a catalog’s message home for your potential customers. To help you out in creating the most successful catalog writing for your own catalogs, here are a few tips on the correct way to write for catalog printing.

1. The first step to a correct way to writing for catalog printing is to be focused with a message or writing goal. This means having content outlines that want to achieve a goal like convincing customers to buy the catalog product. Sometimes people can get carried away with their product descriptions and other information that the focus on the goal is lost. Catalogs are not novels, nor are they magazines. They have a purpose focused on the sale of products, and the writing style should be clear on this as well. So stay on target and never go off topic in your writing.

2. Now, for each product text entry always try to be as concise as possible with the composition. Do not dilly dally too much and keep the flowery adjectives to a bare minimum. In most cases customers respond to a quick presentation of the information that they want, rather than a long spiel about how good a product is. In fact, too long product content entries that hide in overly praiseful words can in fact become very untrustworthy. So keep things short, quick and understandable and you should have no trouble with catalog writing.

3. Also, always pay attention to what you are saying for each product. You don’t want to keep repeating yourself over and over again for each of those items. Repeating descriptions, phrases even just simple buzzwords can really hamper your catalog writing quality. Always treat each product writing as a new and original piece of text. Otherwise, people can become bored faster with the endless repeating words and phrases about different products.

4. Next, try to use some key power words when you write your product descriptions. Power words are basically those words with the best impact for catalog readers. Words like “free” or “discount” or just some of the common examples. Sometimes though, these words can be more detailed and say something about the product properties themselves. Words like “quality”, “quality tested” are some power words that relate to this category. By emphasizing some of these power words in your catalog writing, you can attract reader’s attention and gain more impact as people read your catalogs. This can be the key to people finally noticing something that they want to buy.

5. Lastly, do not forget to use and explain all the industry jargon that is unique for the products that you are offering. Using the appropriate language establishes you as an authority figure about those items making people trust the text more. Of course for advanced terms always try to have a layman’s description included in your text to help the novices and uninitiated.

Good. Just follow these five tips and your text for catalog printing should be as effective as the images and the material for the catalogs itself. Your readers will understand you better and hopefully will be encouraged enough to make a purchase.
