We all have come across the term web browser, but what does it exactly implies? It refers to software application through which users can display their website, carry out interaction through images and text and other relevant information on a web page of a website and display it in the world wide web by any local area network.

If we study carefully, we would find that web pages are created by writing of codes in HTML, PHP or any other form of programming language. The structure of a web page that is seen in web browsers is not as same as seen when web browsers get the coding information and converts it into the display format that you see on a website.

As different browsers have different type display options, similar web page might appear slight different in varied browsers. In case you want to view the exact form in which the web page was written, than right click on the screen and after that select view source option. It would display an array of commands that looks like a clutter which would not be any sense to you. Here the browsers converts such clutter into format thats understandable.

Generally people use only few types of web browsers but in reality there are many types of them found online. The most common and widely used browser is 'Internet Explorer'. Other popular ones are Netscape, Safari, Mozilla Firefox and Opera.

The primary function of browsers is to access the world wide web. But it can also be used to for using the information that is been provided by web servers. Content that is present in file systems can also be accessed.

HTTP is used by web browsers for easy communication with the web servers. Hypertext Transfer Protocol facilitate in submission of information from web browsers to web servers and also get web pages from servers.

We all know that a web page is found on the internet via a fixed URL thats equal to the net address and it begins with 'http:' for HTTP. Different web browsers supports wide range of protocols like rtsp: for RTSP, https: for HTTPS and ftp: for FTP.

Apart from supporting computer languages like HTML, PHP, etc web browsers do supports many image formats like PNG, JPEG and GIF. The decision of website designers for image selection, video, animation, streaming media, sound, etc use in a web page is taken by proper combination of HTTP content type and URL protocol.
