Don Williams is famous a country music singer and songwriter. He was born on May 27, 1939, in Floydada, Texas. Nowadays there are very few country singers and Don Williams is definitely one of them and a noteworthy one. After seven years with the folk-pop group Pozo Seco Singers, he started his solo career in the year of 1971. He sang several popular ballads and 17 number one smashing hits. His own unique style, straightforward vocals, soft, warm tones, plus an impressive build earned him the nickname the “gentle giant of country music”.
Don loves playing guitar he started it as a teenager that he learned from his mother. In his youth, he used to play with country, rock and folk(http://www.ticketnest.com/COUNTRY-FOLK.php ) bands. In 1964 he created his debut band with Lofton Kline, enrolled Susan Taylor, they made the Pozo Seco Singers. It was a totally folk-pop group. Pozo Seco Singers band after signing a contract with Columbia Records hit on a series of smashing hits in the Top 50's till late1966. In 1971, the group unluckily disbanded, but from this point onwards, Don Williams went on his own successful solo career.
William likes to sing song as he is talking to the audience meaning having light topics for song and as a result most of his songs take the listener to a friendly world where everyone is a friend and happy to help each and talk to each other on day to day matter. Actually country music is made of real incidents happening in people’s life including real emotions. And William’s soft voice works as a catalyst for these heart felt words. William is a master in making the listener feel what he is singing and this very ingredient is success for William.
Williams in the beginning started out as a songwriter for Jack Music Inc., as he lacked belief about working as a solo singer but when he signed with JMI as a solo artist. His 1974 song "We Should Be Together" mounted to number five, additionally he was signed on with ABC/Dot. His debut single with ABC/Dot, "I Wouldn't Want to Live If You Didn't Love Me," fortunately became a number one hit, and was also the first of a string of top ten hits he had between the time periods of 1974 to 1991. Actually just only four out of his 46 singles didn't make it to the Top Ten otherwise all others were an instant hit. In the late 2005, Williams was still an active touring act all through the United States and Canada. Whereas in 2006, Williams has been touring Britain, involving towns like Basingstoke. Moreover, Williams will be appearing at the Wembley Stadium with country musician Kenny Rogers in summer 2006.
Don Williams was the Country Music Association's Male Vocalist of the Year in 1978 and his famous song “Tulsa Time” was recognized as the Single of the Year. William’s songs have been recorded by artists like Johnny Cash, Eric Clapton, Lefty Frizzell, Sonny James, Charley Pride, Kenny Rogers, and Pete Townshend.
