If you have a son or daughter who enjoys playing high school lacrosse and has his or her sights set on playing for a college team, you will certainly have an exciting time ahead for you all. To make the most of lacrosse college recruiting, it makes sense to keep some strategies in mind that will help your child to succeed at the goal of earning a scholarship through college lacrosse recruiting.
Become informed early in the process
Those four years of high school go by very rapidly, especially when you and your child are working toward the goal of a college lacrosse recruiting scholarship. There is a standard timeline in place that coaches follow when recruiting lacrosse team members, and you will want to become familiar with that in order to be prepared for every step in the journey.
Parental support during the college lacrosse recruiting process
Parental support and encouragement can go a long way toward a child working hard to learn as much as possible in class as well as out on the playing field. This is important because colleges will be looking at grades as part of the requirements for admission in addition to game skill level.
Parents can also help to make sure that their children are signed up to take college entrance exams, such as the SAT, as early as possible. These tests are also part of the lacrosse college recruiting admission requirements.
Lights, Camera, Action!
Another step you can take to help your child with college lacrosse recruiting is to take video of your son or daughter playing in games. Digital video cameras have come down in price and are quite easy to operate, and the video can be edited on a home personal computer with editing software. If this is not something you are comfortable with, you can ask the high school coaches if they will be taking any video and try to get a copy of that, or you can hire a professional to take care of it for you. This video is an audition piece that can go on your child's personal webpage, so that coaches who are recruiting lacrosse players can easily look at it.
Hello Mudda, Hello Fatha
Lacrosse recruiting camp is a great experience for students to be seen by coaches who are recruiting lacrosse players for their teams. Another benefit is that you can attend a lacrosse recruiting camp at one of your child's top schools, and this allows you, in between games, to take a look at the college, check out the dorms and cafeteria, even sit in on a class or two, and see if the school is a good fit. It is an excellent idea to notify all of the coaches who will be recruiting lacrosse team members on your child's top school list whenever he or she plans to attend a lacrosse recruiting camp.
Have fun and stay focused during lacrosse college recruiting!
