Mail correspondences are part of life. Especially with marketing, it’s a common sight that print envelopes are used by many businesses. With the wide array of envelopes, from standard business to large manila envelope printing, these accessories make it easy for many people to send their correspondences via post.

However, with the advent of digital technology, envelope printing has become unnecessary. Marketing collaterals such as flyers and postcard printing are often designed to be self-mailers, hence saving money on the additional purchase of print envelopes. Not to mention that they also save our natural resources from being depleted such as our trees.

But for those who still utilize envelope printing as part of their marketing campaigns, here are ways to help you go green with your tools:

Reuse envelopes. To reduce waste and save your money, envelopes can be reused especially when they’re in good shape when they arrive to their recipients. Some print envelopes have clasps and seals that can be used again and again. Just apply a new set of address labels and you’re good to go. Just make sure that you provide enough space for postage metering and stamping, as well as a message to indicate that you’re recycling said envelopes.

Purchase recyclable envelopes. There are envelopes that actually have ‘post-consumer content’ that indicates the envelopes as recyclables. This will alert your recipients that your marketing tool is being used to help the environment.

Also, make sure that you purchase those that come in white or light-colored paper because it provides you with more chances for users to actually recycle them. Most envelopes with plastic windows, made of plastic bubble padding, and paper-padded envelopes are very hard to recycle that’s why many markets refuse to accept them.

So the next time you’re buying your envelopes go green and purchase only those that can be recycled. These envelopes are widely available from any gift shops and office supply stores. With many print envelopes available with the minimum of 10% post-consumer content, your mail accessories are within the Federal government’s procurement guidelines’ acceptable standards.

Additional information –
Here are some of the accepted standards for post-consumer content set forth by the Federal government with regards to purchasing envelopes:

- White wove should have 30% post-consumer content.
- White or colored Kraft envelopes should have 10%-20%.
- Unbleached Kraft envelopes have 10%.
- Plastic envelopes with 25% to 35% total recycled plastic content with at least 25% post-consumer content are acceptable.
