Skopelos is the greenest island in Greece and the largest island in the Northern Sporades. Situated in the central-northwest Aegean, east of Pelion and north of Evia, Skopelos has 67km of coastline, being 17km long and 8km wide. The beauty of the place is given by the green of the pine-trees and the dense forest mix with the deep blue of sea and sky. The island has an agricultural one with its fertile valleys and thick pine forests it produces an abundance of olives, plums, pears, almonds, and walnuts. In 1997 International Organization of Biopolitics officially proclaimed Skopelos, the "Green and Blue Island” due to the fact that more than 50 per cent of the island area is covered by the virgin forest of pine-trees.

The population is approximately 5.700 native Skopelitans and the main towns or villages are: the town of Skopelos with 4.000 inhabitants, Glossa(1.300 inhabitants) with Loutraki (the second harbour of the island, port of Glossa) , Klima (50 inhabitants), Elios (350 inhabitants).

The colourful main town of Skopelos is a unique place where you will enjoy your walks through the narrow streets although the glistening whitewashed houses of Skopelos Town are visible from afar. There are over 100 churches in the town and other historical monuments on the island, such as the pirate's graves at Sedoukia. Skopelos Town is also the main port on the island and due to its northerly exposure from which direction there is often a strong wind, the ferries and other boats are forced to dock on the southern side of the island at the small port of Agnodas.

The beaches on Skopelos are a real attraction and as all of the northern Sporadic Islands are subject to a strong wind blowing from the north. This is the main reason why most of the beaches on these islands are found on the sheltered southern sides. The most popular and probably the largest beach on Skopelos is Stafilos situated at 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) south of Skopelos Town.

Skopelos' mountains with their many wells and pine trees form another unique attraction on the island. Skopelos Island is picturesque bays, wonderful beaches and unique landscape.
