Some people think nothing of spending £30,000 or more on a kitchen. There is nothing wrong with this: if the person’s previous kitchen is in a state of dilapidation. This never is the case though. People simply get bored with the look of their kitchen and so they decide that it is time for a new one. If people can be perspicacious though, and a little more reserved, then they can get the new looking kitchen without the new (bad) looking bank balance.
The media has a lot to answer for when it comes to people going kitchen gaga. People open magazines and see dream homes. They switch on the television and they see aspirational shows, telling them how a home needs to be. It is almost as though people are pressganged into getting a new kitchen.
In reference to people wanting the kitchens that are on television or in magazines, a lot of the time this is an impossibility. The amount of space that the average person has means that they are unable to achieve the look that is desired. However, it is realistic to look at creating a scaled down version. It isn’t really very fashionable to completely copy, anyway: a kitchen needs to reflect a homeowners personality.
It is important to give a great deal of thought to the layout of a kitchen. The positioning of certain appliances is going to be dictated by the positioning of plumbing points. Therefore, the positioning of everything has to be focussed around items such as the sink and the dishwasher: you would not want to have to cross your entire kitchen, just to put a couple of plates away.
It is when the layout has been devised that the aesthetic elements can be taken into consideration. Ask yourself: do I need everything in my kitchen to be replaced? More often than not the answer to this is no. people have the cabinets of their kitchen replaced for no reason. The cost of cabinets one the labour of having them fitted has been added, is formidable. Plenty of money can be saved by replacing simply the doors. If the new doors do not compliment the work surfaces then there is the option of getting these replaced as well.
