To become blind is to have one of the most important aspects of living taken away, for without sight, a person is restricted massively. Yes, it is terrible to be born without the ability to see, but this is nothing compared with losing the ability to, after some time. If a person is blinded because another person has been negligent then the blinded person will receive a great deal of compensation.
Many people in the UK are blinded as the result of being attacked. Booze Britain should indeed hang its head in shame, because a lot of people are blinded as the result of being glassed in public houses and pubs. Anyone getting blinded in such a manner can expect to be remunerated via a criminal injury compensation claim.
It is less common but happens all the same, for a person to be blinded as the result of their eyes coming into contact with chemicals. When certain chemicals enter the eye it can cause the eye to burn. This is not always as profound as to cause permanent blinding, but sometimes it does. If a victim has been blinded because an employee has failed to provide sufficient eye protection, then it is highly advisable that a claim for compensation is made.
Blindness can be caused by severe head trauma, with victims of car crashes and particularly severe trip/slip/fall incidents suffering loss of sight. Blindness can also be caused by sharp objects. Certain types of work involve contact with sharp objects, and when care is not taken by colleagues then serious accidents can occur. Also, foreign objects such as dust particles, although seemingly benign, can get into the eye and cause blindness. If a person works in an extremely dust environment then they should be supplied with goggles.

Helping your blind friend or family member to get legal representation is a necessity.
