Road traffic accidents are awful, with those involved suffering in a psychological capacity as well as a physical one. There are people that are afraid to travel in cars for weeks subsequent to being in an accident. The whole malaise that is a road traffic accident can be compounded somewhat, and this is what happens when a hit and run occurs.

The police are handy sometimes when a hit and run occurs, as they sometimes manage to trace the driver. If this is the case and the driver is insured, then the process of making a personal injury claim can proceed as normal. This cannot be said if the driver is uninsured, and such cases are best referred to the Motor Insurers’ Bureau. The MIB have a cost free uninsured drivers’ scheme, and can help people that are left in such terrible situations.

The whole purpose of the MIB is to aid drivers that have fallen prey to the actions of hit and run drivers, drivers without insurance, and other negligent highway users. If a person gets the MIB on side, along with a sound legal representative, then there is every chance of the person getting the compensation that they deserve.

If a person has been the victim of a hit and run then there are certain steps that need to be taken, and these steps will hopefully serve to strengthen the case for the victim. The details of any eyewitnesses should be recorded, including names, telephone numbers, and addresses. It is also important to take photos of the scene of the incident.

Be aware that a hit and run, or a person driving without insurance, is an instance whereby a crime has been committed. Therefore the police need to be contacted. The police records are instrumental in winning compensation, as is medical evidence. There is no chance of winning compensation if medical evidence of injuries cannot be provided.
