Border Collies are known as active and extremely hard working dogs. They are well-loved because of their excellent performance when working in farms to herd cattle, sheep, pigs and other animals. But for some reasons, these adorable monsters can get very nasty just like any other dog breeds.

Excessive Barking.
It is normal for every border collies to bark when working in the field or to warn you of something he perceived as danger. However, excessive barking is not good anymore but is disruptive to you and your neighbors. To solve this problem, you need to determine where or when the dog is barking. Is your dog barking excessively when he's alone in the yard? If that's the case, take your dog inside or have someone or another dog accompany him outside. Is he barking like crazy when somebody appears in your door? This situation involves territorial issues. Naturally, a dog will bark at someone he considered as threat to his territory and may harm his family. Help your dog get rid of this problem. When your dog is barking excessively, call him over or shake a can of pennies. When he stops barking, reward him with a treat.

Jumping Up on People.
How would you feel if you are welcomed by a jumping dog the moment you step into someone's house? Train your dog to stop jumping up on people by ignoring him completely when he attempts to jump up on you. Look upward and fold your arms across your chest and pretend that he's not around. Command the dog to sit and when he does, reward him with a treat and of course, the reason why he jumps up on you - attention. This method aims to teach your dog that he gets no attention when jumping up on people.

Chewing and Digging.
Other behavior problems common in border collies and other dogs as well are chewing and digging. These two are natural behaviors among dogs but it is important that you must take steps to eradicate these behaviors if you do not want your whole house to end in complete mess. Provide chew toys and use bitter apple spray on your furniture. Confine your dog in a crate or limit his access to the whole house if you can't supervise him. To prevent unsightly holes in your yard, give your pet his own sandbox in which he can dig as much as he want without hurting your feelings and your yard. Bury balls, toys and treats to make the activity enjoyable. Eventually, he'll realize that there is a prize waiting for him when he digs into the sandbox thus prefer the box than your yard.
