In order to make your trip to Germany a pleasant one, it is very important for you to keep in mind several things, such as which transport system is the most affordable and comfortable, which restaurants you should visit in, what you should expect at a supermarket, and other such things. Keeping in mind the following Germany travel tips will help to make your trip a hassle free one.

Restaurant And Bars

There are several things that you need to keep in mind while you visit restaurants and bars during your Germany travel.

• The first thing that is very important for you to understand is that water is not complimentary here. What you will get is carbonated bottled water when you order for water. Obviously, you will be charged for the same. In an attempt to save this cost, you may like to request them to give you tap water, but there are several restaurants that will charge you for that, as well.
• If you are visiting an American fast food restaurant in Germany, you may even be charged for ketchup, as well.
• The sandwiches in most restaurants are either small or with a peculiar taste.
• Every restaurant in Germany has a different menu.
• For a very good service, you may consider giving a tip of two or three EUR. The reason why waiters/waitresses tips are so small in Germany is that they get a very good salary.

Closing Hours

While you explore more Germany travel tips, you will come to know that you need to be aware of the closing hours. For example, most of the museums are closed on Mondays. Likewise, almost everything else is closed on Sundays, such as shops, gas stations, bars, restaurants, and other such things. You may find some of the shops, especially the bigger ones, open on Sundays, but it is very rare. On regular days, shops in bigger cities usually close at around eight o’clock at night and in smaller cities, the closing time for shops is even earlier.

Supermarkets

Following are some of the Germany travel tips related to visiting a supermarket.

• There is a designated area in every supermarket where large rolling carts are placed, locked to one another. There is a slot in the handle of these carts. You are required to put one EUR in the cart itself in order to utilize it.
• However, the coin you put in the cart is still yours. You can take it back when you are leaving the supermarket. After you have finished shopping, you will latch the cart back to the other carts. Once you do that, you can pull out the device from the handle where you had kept the coin and take it out.
• Plastic bags are not provided free of cost. When you proceed to the checkout counter after having all the groceries you want, you will have to pay for the plastic bags if you want to put groceries in them.

Along with other Germany travel tips, it is also very important for you to understand that public phones are very rare in this country. If you still need to use one, the best way is to visit an Internet café and use a telephone card.
