Considering that the entire United States is in the midst of the worst recession in decades, it comes as no surprise that many men and women are trying to find new ways to find deals before spending their hard-earned cash. For those that still like to go out for a drink and bite to eat every now and then, you are in luck! The following is a guide people can use to save money when going out at night.

Tip #1: Find restaurants or bars that offer happy hour deals or daily specials. Many bars and restaurants are seeing a decrease in the number of customers that come in on a daily basis, so they are offering more deals for consumers. Some establishments offer half-price drinks, appetizers, and entrees in an attempt to draw in more customers.

Tip #2: Look for coupons. In addition to offering in-house daily specials, many places are also offering coupons deals that can be found in various places. You can try to find coupons in the newspaper, in the mail, local restaurant guides, and online. Many coupons offer two-for-one deals, free appetizer with purchase of an entrée, and other specials.

Tip #3: Share a meal and appetizer with a friend. It is no secret that portion sizes in most restaurants and bars are big enough for two – or more – people to enjoy. By going out to lunch and dinner and splurging on only one appetizer and main dish, you can save 50 percent on your final bill.

Tip #4: Avoid ordering drinks. Restaurants and bars make a great profit on beverage sales. This is because they jack up the price of sodas, juices, coffees, and, of course, alcoholic drinks. When you go out to eat, try to avoid ordering these drinks and instead opt for water. Not only is it healthier than most drinks, it will help you save money.
