In historical times, computers were considered a great milestone in the advent of the “Information Age”. They started out really big and slowly throughout the years made their way to home consumers and now with the many different kinds of computers now available, just about everyone has a computer of their own that they rely to on a daily basis.
The face or look of these computers have changed numerous times with the laptops getting thinner and the high end desktops getting a bit bigger but sporting advanced hardware. And with all the manufacturers still under heavy competition, buying a computer can be difficult, but the good news is that many of the computers these days are affordable and powerful enough to overcome problems in the past such as slowdowns and instability. Here are some of the main factors that are molding the new face of computers.
Size
Laptops have been around for awhile, but they never really took out their desktop cousins because of various limitations. This is why the bigger desktops are still around. However, there have been plenty of changes going around in various other aspects. Netbooks have been generating positive reception by consumers due to its small size and well-rounded ability to do tasks that exceed older laptops. This has also led to desktop computers slimming down using similar hardware concepts. Their small size has made them very affordable and ideal for students and travelers.
Hardware
It is the hardware that contributes to the small size of these computers because popular chipmakers are actively researching to find ways to make their chips more powerful and smaller. The same is applied to storage too with hard disks and flash drives becoming much smaller yet still maintaining good capacities.
Hardware has also changed the face of bigger computers by incorporating advanced technology to allow the computer to run in faster speeds, which is required to run modern applications and games. At the same time, wirings were also reduced to allow easy upgrading. Chipmakers have also taken a stance on making their hardware environmental friendly.
Interface
Keyboards will always be here to stay, but new keyboard devices now appear slimmer and provide more functions for better accessibility. Touch-screen monitors have also made it to the market as well for providing more ways to interact than using the mouse or keyboard. Although touch-screens aren’t really new, multi-touch screens will raise the bar on how people interact with their computers.
Software
For the interface and hardware to work, the computers need to be backed up by the latest software. Both Windows and Apple are planning new versions of their operating systems to adapt to these new technologies and will be distributed among all computing devices including portables. Examples of software working with other elements would be the onscreen keyboard that can be operating by means of multi-touch. Many more software will take advantage of these fascinating technologies in the near future.
With so many changes going on under the hood in various aspects of the computer, it is a bit unclear to accurately predict what the new face of computers looks and feels like. It is certain however that these changes will bring about better productivity and convenience to all who rely on computers to get things done.
