The news about latent symantec indexing (LSI), a new algorithm adopted by Google to rank Web pages, has grabbed a lot of attention of search engine optimization (SEO) consultants and Internet marketing experts. What is LSI all about? How important is it for the optimization of a Web site in the search engine result page (SERP). Let us here analyze the concept and the advantages of adopting this SEO strategy.

While earlier SEO methods focused on keywords density, LSI evolves around the theme of the contents in the Web page, say experts providing SEO consulting services. By giving importance to the theme of the Web site, Google tries to optimize the Web site for prospective visitors and keep the spammers at bay.

Using LSI method, Google will index those Web pages that contain words/phrases or their synonyms, keeping the theme in focus. It may not index the Web pages that are abundant with a particular keyword. For example, if a person searches for information on ‘holidays in Greece,’ he will be directed to Web sites that have information such as ‘Greek holidays’, ‘places to visit’, ‘tourist guide’, ‘attractions’, ‘how to reach’, ‘accommodation’, etc. Google may not list those Web sites that have filled their home pages with various versions of the keywords such as ‘Greece holidays’, ‘Greek holidays’, ‘travel Greek’, ‘Greece travel’, etc.

With LSI on place, SEO services providers have a bigger task of building the contents of the Web site based on its theme. Google’s effort of making the Web sites look ‘meaningful’ to the users is well appreciated. This method is beneficial to authentic Web site owners who practice Internet marketing through organic methods.

The message is clear for spammers: Adopt LSI or die. Those who flourished through link farming are facing the consequences now. SEO consultants say Google does not pay much attention to reciprocal links. What is more, the No.1 search engine is penalizing Web sites for link farming. This would mean that those of you who were simply promoting each other’s Web sites through reciprocal linking are at risk now. It is time to rebuild those Web sites with rich content that has the desired number of keywords and phrases.

SEO consultants, however, confirm that Google encourages internal links to/from related Web sites that are intended to make the browsing more meaningful. Well, Google spiders are intelligent: they can now distinguish an authentic Web site from a spam site. If you want a decent page ranking for your Web site, approach a reputed SEO services provider to get the Web site contents revised according to the theme of the Web site.
