With the objective to promote financing for Lahore’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs), the Bank Fair, 2009 is being organised at Aiwan-e-Iqbal.
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) BSC Lahore in cooperation with 21 commercial banks, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA), Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PSIC) is organising this fair. The event will be promoted and backed by the Support Fund and Punjab Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PWCCI).
Barbruce Ishaq, Chief Manager, SBP BSC Lahore, revealed that the main idea behind organising this fair was to promote the SME sector and encourage banks to step up their lending levels to the sector.
The fair is expected to create awareness among the stakeholders in the SME segment in Lahore and would prove to be beneficial for bankers as it would give them the chance to introduce their SME products. Mr Ishaq also admitted the need for improving the overall lending capacity of commercial banks to the SME sector. The share of SME loans is estimated to be a mere 14% of the total lending of commercial banks in Lahore.
